Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plate and Shell Structures

Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plate and Shell Structures PDF Book Detail Author: Buntara Gan
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0429680694
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 173

Book Description
Condensed Isogeometric Analysis for Plates and Shell Structures proposes a novel technique for plate and shell governing equations based on isogeometric analysis, which condenses the dynamic equilibrium equation for plate and shell structures—suitable for reducing the computation cost of large degrees of freedom due to the adoption of Non-Uniform Rational Basis Spline (NURBS) models in the plate and shell element formulations. It features useful guidance for understanding the isogeometric approach and includes accompanying MATLAB® source code in each chapter to deepen readers' understanding of the fundamental theories and methods of civil, architectural, and mechanical engineering. Features: Adopts a progressive and rigorous presentation of relevant topics to facilitate use by students, academics, and professionals Seamlessly integrates the CAD geometrical data into the conventional FE plate and shell classical element codes Allows computation of analytical solutions of plate and shell theories based on a newly-introduced condensation method, not approximation theory Includes relevant MATLAB® codes

Book Description
"So, what is Hawai'i? one might ask. Or a truer question would be: Who is Hawai'i?" muses Richard Chamberlain in his foreword to "Stories of Aloha: Homegrown Treasures of Hawai'i". In more than 130 profiles and recipes compiled over 23 years, author Jocelyn Fujii leads us to the neighborhoods, rich legacies, cultural treasures and small family businesses that have helped build Hawai'i through the years. Chefs, weavers, farmers, artists, homemakers, hula masters, and business people spring to life in rememberance of Aloha Airlines, whose inflight magazine carried these stories until the airlines closed in 2008. Includes recipes by Aloha Airlines employees. Best Hawaii legendary people stories.

Plate Heat Exchangers

Plate Heat Exchangers PDF Book Detail Author: Bengt Sundén
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 185312737X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
Plate-and-frame heat exchangers (PHEs) are used in many different processes at a broad range of temperatures and with a variety of substances. Research into PHEs has increased considerably in recent years and this is a compilation of knowledge on the subject. Containing invited contributions from prominent and active investigators in the area, it should enable graduate students, researchers, and research and development engineers in industry to achieve a better understanding of transport processes. Some guidelines for design and development are also included.

Book Description
It is often said that these days there are too many conferences on general areas of computational mechanics. mechanics. and numer ical methods. vJhile this may be true. the his tory of scientific conferences is itself quite short. According to Abraham Pais (in "Subtle is the Lord ...• " Oxford University Press. 1982. p.80). the first international scientific conference ever held was the Karlsruhe Congress of Chemists. 3-5 September 1860 in Karlsruhe. Germany. There were 127 chemists in attendance. and the participants came from Austria. Belgium. France. Germany. Great Britain. Italy. Mexico. Poland. Russia. Spain. Sweden. and Switzerland. At the top of the agenda of the points to be discussed at this conference was the question: "Shall a difference be made between the expressions molecule and atom?" Pais goes on to note: "The conference did not at once succeed in bringing chemists closer together ... It is possible that the older men were offended by the impetuous behavior and imposing manner of the younger scientists" (see references cited in Pais' book). It may be observed that history. in general. repeats itself. However. at ICCM-86 in Tokyo. roughly 500 participants from both the West and the East were in attendance; there were only scholarly exchanges; the young tried to learn from the more experienced. and a spirit of international academic cooperation prevailed.

Sustainable Built Environment and Urban Growth Management

Sustainable Built Environment and Urban Growth Management PDF Book Detail Author: Wann-Ming Wey
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039281860
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
Nowadays, the sustainable built environment planning in most cities has come to a turning point as the growth in traffic and population has become a serious concern and put tremendous pressure on both the environment and people in these cities. It is therefore important to find new ways or lifestyles—such as compact city, transit-oriented development (TOD) formulations—that are more flexible, inclusive, and sustainable. Furthermore, for the sustainable built environment and urban growth management, not only should the growth management principles—which include smart growth, sustainable growth, and inclusive growth—be taken into account but innovative/smart planning strategies—such as mixed use design, green transport, and new urbanism—are also utilized in planning sustainable built environments in order to prevent the urban sprawl development that has occurred.
